Back in 2012, I had a main blog and a few other ‘niche’ websites that were earning a little bit of money. A few years later, I started to realize my potential to earn substantial money on the internet with blogging and websites, and I decided that I needed to make it official and separate my online business finances from my personal finances.
Part of the process to make my business an official entity was to register an LLC (limited liability corporation). I needed a clever name for my LLC – so I went with an acronym of DPI and added the word Worldwide after that.
Why Did I Choose DPI Worldwide, LLC?
My main blog at the time was called Dumb Passive Income. This was a sort of play on words because there was another really popular blog out there called Smart Passive Income. I thought it was pretty funny and I ended up building my own personal brand around my Dumb Passive Income blog.
As you can see, the acronym for Dumb Passive Income is DPI. My audience was worldwide – thus the name I chose for my official company – DPI Worldwide, LLC.
I’ve held this LLC since I opened it in late 2015. I’ve run several online businesses under the umbrella of this one LLC and I’m not stopping anytime soon. However, I did sell my Dumb Passive Income blog in 2024. I no longer own that website, but I am still the sole owner of my company – DPI Worldwide, LLC.
Without a website to go along with my acronym, I needed to find a way to make it make sense.
Introducing Digital Pixel Innovations
I’ve owned this domain (dpiworldwide.com) for many years. I never really did anything with it. I just decided to buy it after registering my LLC, just in case I ever wanted to do something with it.
I sort of stumbled into this service business of creating websites for other small businesses. You can read all about that on my About Us page. When I decided to make this my primary business and start offering my services to more small businesses, I needed a website. I already owned dpiworldwide.com. I just needed to find a way to make that make sense.
So, I took the DPI acronym that I used previously and reverse-engineered it to make it an acronym for a different phrase that related to my new business. It took me a while, through several different brainstorming sessions. Eventually, I came up with what I think is the perfect phrase to describe my new business offering while still fitting it with the DPI acronym
- Digital – I build websites. It’s all digital!
- Pixel – Websites are built with tiny pixels. You have to look really close.
- Innovations – Introducing something new. Your customer website will be new to the world (wide web)!
Digital Pixel Innovations is not an official business name. It’s just what I’m sort of calling this part of my business. It’s more like a catchphrase or description for my website services business. DPI Worldwide, LLC is still the official business name.
A Name That Evolves With Purpose
What started as a playful nod to a blog idea has evolved into a meaningful representation of what I do today. DPI Worldwide, LLC isn’t just a name… it’s a journey. From Dumb Passive Income to Digital Pixel Innovations, it’s a story of growth, adaptation, and finding new ways to add value to the world wide web.
While DPI Worldwide, LLC remains my official business name, Digital Pixel Innovations gives me a fresh identity for the service side of my business. It’s not just a name I threw together; it’s a reflection of how I help small businesses succeed online. Whether it’s building custom websites, ensuring they run smoothly, or providing ongoing support, my goal is to innovate in ways that make life easier for my clients and their customers.
